festival danzar la sierra

Danzar la Sierra is a traveling festival of dance and movement created with the purpose of bringing culture to the villages of the Sierra de Madrid. Its site-specific format allows each artistic intervention to adapt to the unique spaces and corners of every locality, transforming public spaces into ephemeral stages where art and the environment merge into a memorable experience.

This festival aims to decentralize culture, shifting it from major urban centers to local communities and creating a direct connection with new audiences, especially young people and families. Through a diverse and accessible program, Danzar la Sierra seeks to engage local residents with the performing arts, actively collaborating with youth groups, dance schools, and local artists to integrate the region’s cultural identity into each edition. In doing so, it not only promotes and revitalizes the local economy but also fosters a participatory and sustainable cultural model.

We also present works from the prestigious Red a Cielo Abierto, in collaboration with INAEM, allowing these communities to experience high-quality, widely recognized contemporary dance performances. We strengthen the local cultural fabric by prioritizing a predominantly local and diverse program, selecting proposals from a pluralistic perspective that gives visibility to emerging artists and young creators.

Our commitment is to build a festival where young people can discover and engage in artistic activities, creating a space of creativity and inclusion that enriches all generations.

Danzar la Sierra presents itself as an alternative festival model that is flexible and adaptable to the characteristics and needs of each location. Its traveling nature allows different communities, even those with more limited resources, to incorporate it into their cultural programming and offer their residents the opportunity to enjoy a high-quality artistic event.
