EYAS Dance Project
Who we are
EYAS Dance Project is a contemporary dance company and cultural production hub based in Valencia, founded in 2018 by co-directors, creators, and dancers Carlos González and Seth Buckley.
Carlos and Seth are passionate and transgressive artists who thrive on exploring uncharted creative territories. With a fearless spirit and a commitment to questioning the status quo, their work seeks to connect with audiences through heartfelt, innovative, and immersive performative experiences.
They create for EYAS, take on guest choreographic commissions, and produce cultural events and workshops, all with the goal of contributing to a fresh vision of dance. Their work revolves around healing bodies, cultivating transformative experiences, and exploring new paradigms of movement and connection.
What ignites their creativity is the depth of their creations. Through sensitive, playful, and passionate research in choreography and improvisation, they draw inspiration from diverse dance styles to infuse their work with limitless fantasies, contagious groove, and vibrant physicality.
EYAS is committed to creating safe spaces for dancers and artists. They actively promote body diversity, oppose harmful societal standards, and advocate for holistic and ethical practices in their creations, workshops, and cultural events. Their goal is to contribute to a more conscious, diverse, joyful, and equitable profession.
Trajectory
EYAS presents a hybrid model company, blending the approaches of an author-driven and repertory company. This innovative and dynamic structure focuses on creating and commissioning dance works for both national and international stages.
Since its foundation, EYAS has brought its creations to audiences in Germany, Belgium, Italy, Poland, Taiwan, the USA, Sweden, and Spain, performing at renowned festivals such as Madrid en Danza, MASDANZA, Festival Dansa Valencia, Abril en Danza, Festival Dantza Hirían, Menorca en Danza, Tendance Festival (Latina, Italy), Festival Trayectos, and FIND Festival (Cagliari, Sardinia), among others.
The company has achieved widespread recognition and distinction in the field of contemporary dance, including choreographic competitions like the Internationales Solo Tanz Theater Festival in Stuttgart, MASDANZA, and the Certamen Coreográfico de Madrid. Additionally, EYAS has gathered 5 nominations at the Valencian Performing Arts Awards in 2022 and 2023, and has been highlighted by SusyQ magazine as one of seven emerging talents with the greatest potential in Spain’s contemporary dance sector.
Manifesto
We are an organization committed to supporting female and LGBTQ+ creators, actively working to transform the narrative around body diversity and identity in modern society. By honoring and celebrating physical differences, we break free from restrictive norms, approaching the body with openness and compassion. We strive to create environments where body terrorism has no place, inside or outside of the studio. Our work stands as a rejection of the fear-based, oppressive practices that still exist in some academic and professional dance spaces, proposing instead a path of acceptance, empowerment, and respect for all human bodies.
Since the founding of our dance company, our work has been deeply informed by research into sexual diversity, feminism, sustainability, sensuality, and healing practices. These themes are the heartbeat of everything we create.
Our artistic vision is filtered through a queer lens, embracing the freedom to explore the full range of human expression and fantasies within the body and beyond physical boundaries.
We believe in horizontality. In our professional environment, we honor every human aspect of our team, like their emotions, needs, insecurities, and medical specifications. We prioritize conscious, transparent communication, fostering positive reinforcement and collaboration with everyone we work with.
At the heart of our approach is humanity. This principle flows seamlessly into our artistic vision, where vulnerability and honesty are not only encouraged but celebrated. It is from this primal well of authenticity that our artistic language is born and continually nourished.
